Pétanque

We have an active Pétanque league at The Railway and we often have exchange games with both local and teams from the continent.  Once a year we always make a pilgrimage to France to play with our French counterparts.

We have a Pétanque courts available for your use, right next to our beer garden

Pétanque (French pronunciation: [petɑ̃k]; Occitan: petanca [peˈtaŋkɔ]) is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground

No special skill is required, adults can play with children, and the equipment is inexpensive. The game of petanque is simple, relaxing, lots of fun, and a perfect way to make new friends. Last but not least, petanque can be – and usually is – played while enjoying a cool drink.
No wonder this extremely pleasant game is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide!
